Come to the Coastal Heritage Preserve as a family* group and participate in a 2-hour Family Habitat Restoration Adventure!
We will be planting 150 prairie plants from our nursery to restore the coastal prairie ecosystem at Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve. The schedule will open for Friday and Saturday this week, and the following weeks, it will be Wednesday through Saturday. The Habitat Restoration Adventure is open to 3rd & 4th grade Galveston Students and their parents. Siblings that are 3rd grade & up may also attend.
You and your kiddos will have a guide and help plant native prairie plants! Our goal is to restore 8 to 10 acres. Thanks to Kimberly Kirschner and Robert Kirschner from Trinity for being our test family & Galveston.com Lee Roane making our family training video with Greg Hall.

WHAT TO BRING:
– Sturdy shoes such as boots or sneakers. Those without proper footwear will not be able to participate for their own safety (no flip-flops or shorts).
– Long pants and a light long-sleeve shirt
– Drinking water and snacks
– A hat, bug spray, sunscreen, and sunglasses
– Signed waiver
– Plastic bag for trash. We are not allowed to leave food debris in our trashcan. It is carry in – carry out.
WHAT TO BE PREPARED FOR:
– Getting sweaty and dirty. You will get dirt on whatever clothes you wear.
– Working in cold or hot weather. Be prepared with clothes that will keep you warm or cool, but that you can also work in. Dressing in layers is often a good idea.
– Wild animals. There are fire ants and bees out at the Preserve. We’ve never had any issues with them, but be on the lookout and take appropriate precautions.
– Maintain physical distance (6 feet) from the Artist Boat employee at all times.
